Maxwell Heilman Doom Mist makes use of doom metal's dynamic potential as well as its caveman battery. As mournful modulations and vintage leads commingle, Matt Casella's vocals propel the band through multiple emotional vibes per song as he weaves tails inspired by role-playing games and high fantasy. In fact, his singing is the most consistent standout aspect of the EP. Guttural barks call to mind Sleep, while his souring melodies feature memorable hooks and immersive structure.
Favorite track: Burn the Trees.
